Good Shepherd Ministries, Inc.

In 1973, Norman and Imogene Dixon felt the calling of the Holy Spirit to come to Haiti. They organized a group of five friends into a corporate body that would become the Board of Orphans, Inc. An orphanage was completed in Haiti in 1975. Before returning to the United States, the Dixon’s came upon hundreds of malnourished children, unable to go to school due to economic conditions in Haiti. It became evident that God intended to do much more than build an orphanage. Through the ensuing years churches and schools, staffed with Christian teachers, were built. The name of the corporation was then changed to Good Shepherd Ministries, Inc.

Norman Dixon went to be with the Lord in 1993. The ministry that the Dixon’s built together was placed under the guardianship of another mission for three years and was almost lost. It was one of the greatest trials GSMI ever endured. In 1996, Imogene reclaimed the ministry and initiated a recovery program.

The Ministry Today
Bill Younger is now the Executive Director of GSMI. He brings new vision and energy to the ministry. Three large centers of ministry have been reestablished in Northern Haiti, with the main center of operations and training in Milot where the work was originally established in 1974. The High Schools and Elementary Schools have been staffed and made operational. Thousand of students have passed through the halls of these schools with many going on to seminary, universities, and medical schools. Many have become Pastors, now working hand in hand with GSMI to provide continuing education, training, and spiritual growth in the people of Haiti. Some students have gone on to become doctors and yet others are now filling positions with the Haitian Government. This has given Good Shepherd Ministries, Inc. an extensive network of influence in the Northern Department of Haiti through which to propagate the Gospel.

Mission Statement
Good Shepherd Ministries, Inc. is a non-profit organization which was organized for the purpose of bringing the Haitian people to the knowledge and acceptance of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord of their lives. There is a special focus on the education of young people: first, to enable nationals to reach nationals with the Gospel; secondly, to provide training for spiritual and academic leadership in the religious sector, as well as the political arena.

This mission provides the leadership and logistics to help the Haitian people rise above the demonic oppression of false religion, and the politics of squalor. They must make this ascent from within - nationals helping nationals.

“Where there is no vision the people perish.”
Proverbs 29:18a

Statement of Faith
We believe that the Holy Scriptures, consisting of Old and New Testaments, were originally and inerrantly communicated by God and, therefore, are verbally inspired, and constitute the infallible authority in all matters of faith, life, and conduct.

We believe there is one true God, subsisting in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, the same in essence and equal in wisdom, goodness, power, and glory.

We believe in the essential deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His inerrant teaching, in His substitutionary and expiatory death, by which we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins; in His bodily resurrection from among the dead, in His ascension into Heaven, in His present priestly session, in His personal return at the end of the age to raise the dead, glorify the church, judge the earth, and to reign as King of kings and Lord of lords.

We believe that man was created innocent and in the spiritual image of God; that he was tempted by Satan and fell, and that through his sin, his posterity thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death, which is eternal separation from God.

We believe that the salvation of the lost and sinful man comes only through the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit as man repents toward God and exercises faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit to convict the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment; and to indwell and enable the Christian to live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present age.

We believe the church on earth consists of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ who are dedicated to the worship and service of God through the proclamation of the Word, the observance of the sacraments, and the administration of discipline.

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust - the just to everlasting life and bliss, the unjust to everlasting shame and perdition.
