Someone once said, “Christianity is 20 miles wide and ½
inch thick”.
This is certainly true of Haiti. Discipleship is a major need for
the people of Haiti. The goal of GSMI is to bring together the resources
needed to equip church leaders with a greater working knowledge
of the word of God.
Our primary focus is on the children of Haiti. Through our schools
we disciple these children in the nurture and admonition of the
Lord. From there our attention is turned on the Pastors. Our goal
is to concentrate our efforts on “faithful men, who shall
be able to teach others also.”
We accomplish this goal with 3 vehicles:
First, we began teaching general topic seminars with a focus on
subjects such as stewardship, authority, and marriage. These seminars
are designed around essential topics where cultural influences have
perverted scriptural truths.
Secondly, special training conferences are scheduled where long-term
training is necessary. These conferences are in cooperation with
sister ministries such as Life Exchange Ministries. LEM is a training
and counseling ministry teaching the truth of Christian identity
and function in Christ. Christ centered counseling is provided for
the purpose of identifying and eliminating emotional, behavioral
and relational problems.
Thirdly,
we have developed the annual Keswick Convention of Haiti. Pastors
that are knowledgeable of the Keswick message come to Haiti for
three days of meetings. The Keswick message has been developed over
the years since the first Keswick meeting in 1875 at Keswick, England.
Hence the name Keswick.
Keswick message is distinctive and its focus is clear. It still
essentially follows the message given by Evan Roberts in 1903 through
1906:
1. The Problem of Indwelling Sin
2. The Prerogative of Confessing Sin
3. The Preeminence of Christ as Lord
4. The Power of the Spirit Filled Life
5. The Proliferation of The Christian empowered life and service
Our future plans to train leaders include a distant learning program
that would give us greater access to the pastor/teachers in the
United States.
Testimony
It was my very great privilege to minister at the Keswick
Convention in N. Haiti, November 2000. The blessings of that week
are still very fresh in my memory. I do thank the Lord for granting
this great privilege to me.
My wife and I were so deeply impressed by the spiritual reality
of the Lord’s people there. They so eagerly embraced the teaching
of the Word of God, especially with reference to victorious Christian
living through the power of the indwelling Christ and the grace
of the indwelling Holy Spirit. The people attending the convention
were a constant inspiration to us, especially since they were so
poor materially, by western standards, yet they were so rich in
the things of their Christian life.
We also came away from that convention convinced that the ministry
of the Keswick Convention represents a powerful basis of hope and
triumph for the people of Haiti living in a country devoted to the
power of satan.
Good Shepherd Ministries, which sponsors these Keswick Conventions
is worthy of the total support of God’s people here in America.
May the Lord wonderfully bless you all. You are regularly in our
prayers.
Most sincerely,
Dr. Eric Crichton
